AWS, Microsoft and Google each operate a cloud marketplace where vendors list software for partner sales.

AI assistants and the three major cloud providers are reshaping how technology vendors sell through partners. AWS, Microsoft and Google each run a marketplace where customers can purchase software, often via a private or multiparty offer, and they place their own sellers alongside the vendor’s.

New rules for channel managers

Because a purchase can now close on a marketplace listing, channel managers must negotiate engagement rules with hyperscaler sales teams. The economics shift when customers pay by usage rather than a traditional license, and co-sell programs require vendors to align incentives with the cloud provider’s own sellers.

Buyers also begin their research with AI chatbots that surface vendor information before any human contact. That changes the timing of outreach and the content that must be ready for an AI-generated answer.

Job listings illustrate the shift. In September 2026, the Channel Institute recorded a Director of CSP and Hyperscaler Partner Marketing role at Palo Alto Networks, a Marketplace GTM Program Leader at HPE, and a Hyperscaler Partner Sales Senior Manager at Salesforce, each demanding a decade or more of experience.

Training keeps pace

The Channel Institute’s Certificate in Channel Marketing still teaches core skills: positioning partners, building joint value propositions, segmenting audiences, and measuring co-marketing ROI. Those fundamentals remain essential because most resellers are small, tech-focused firms without dedicated marketers.

Beyond the basics, the curriculum adds modules on cloud marketplaces, hyperscaler co-marketing and AI-driven buying. The program consists of ten self-paced online modules, roughly 20 hours of study, and ends with an online exam requiring a 70% pass rate. Graduates earn the Certified Channel Marketing Professional credential, which employers can verify.

The certificate costs US$1,900, with a 30-day refund if a learner has not completed beyond module 5. Prospective students may try a module for free before committing.

Channel management training follows a similar structure, covering the full partner lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to joint business planning, incentives, deal registration and conflict resolution—while also addressing new hyperscaler co-sell considerations.

For sales professionals, the Certificate in Channel Sales teaches how to motivate partners, co-sell solutions, prospect jointly and evaluate partner performance. Like the marketing track, it runs ten modules, 20 hours, and the same fee.

Data from the Institute’s September 2026 job-ad survey show that the median experience requirement across 362 channel and partner roles is five years. Partner-marketing positions ask for a median of six years.

These high thresholds reflect employers’ difficulty in assessing skills without a standardized credential. A certification offers a concrete proof point that goes beyond a date range on a résumé.

In practice, vendors often write the bulk of partner-focused content because many resellers lack full-time marketers. This creates a demand for marketers who can craft joint campaigns that point equally to a marketplace listing and a partner’s website, and who can produce assets that AI assistants will surface for prospective buyers.

Only two of the 27 partner marketing adverts would consider candidates with two years or less of experience. Most employers at this level expect candidates to design partner programs, not just run partner accounts.

Advanced training for channel professionals

The Channel Institute’s advanced certificate covers cloud marketplaces, hyperscaler co-sell, and AI-led buying.

The certificate costs US$1,900, and learners can try Module 2, Route-to-Market Design, for free. This certificate builds on the core certificates in channel management, channel sales, and channel marketing, adding AI and hyperscaler material.

Every claim in the advanced certificate is dated and graded, allowing learners to separate what has happened from what is forecast. The certificate leads to the Certified Channel Ecosystem Professional credential.

The Channel Institute’s Industry Advisory Council, comprising 27 senior channel leaders, reviews the syllabus for the Certificate in Channel Marketing. This ensures the training remains relevant and effective for channel professionals.
